Our Anaerobic Digestion Technology

1. Food waste is taken to the reception area where the material goes through a process which separates the waste from any packaging.

2. Food waste is taken to the digester whilst packaging is sent off to be treated separately.

3. The food waste is pulverised, and heated to kill off any dangerous bacteria. This allows us to comply with Animal By-Product (ABP) Regulations.

4. The mixture is fed into a tank where there is no oxygen, and special bacteria are added. The bacteria digests the waste, producing a flammable bio-gas (mainly methane) as a product.

5. The bio-gas is fed into an engine, which produces electricity. The leftover material, called digestate / bio-fertiliser, can be spread onto farmland to add nutrients.
